Transport minister Anthony Albanese told a news conference Tuesday that Australian aircraft will be allowed to enter Indonesia's airspace and refuel during searches and rescues.
He said Australia also has agreed to improve Indonesia's search-and-rescue capabilities by providing advanced satellite communication and tracking technology to seek help from merchant ships.
Albanese and two other Australian ministers are in Indonesia to discuss with their Indonesian counterparts ways to strengthen maritime ties and combat people smuggling.
