"The ASA will be the venue for exchanges and collaboration on sugarcane, sugar and related products researches among alliance members," the Department of Agriculture said in a statement.
"This is in response to the changing business environment - trade, growing demand for sugar, advances in farm and mill technologies and changing weather patterns," the agency added.
The alliance will also tackle cooperation efforts on sugar-related business development, the statement read.
Cherdpong Siriwit, chairman of Thai Sugar Millers Corp., was appointed as ASA president, while Pedro Roxas, chairman of listed sugar producer Roxas Holdings, Inc., was elected vice-chairman of the alliance.
The ASA held its organizational meeting in Bangkok, Thailand last Nov. 7.-ABS-CBN News (November 13, 2012 5:12PM)
