Foreign business groups eye opportunities in Phl

Seven to eight business delegations from Europe and Latin America are visiting the country in October to look for opportunities, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) said.

“Europe and Latin America will be sending delegations here in October. They want to see what business opportunities are available for them here,” PCCI president Miguel Varela told reporters.

He said the business delegations expected to visit the country would come from Europe, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru.

The foreign companies are interested in investment opportunities in manufacturing, services, semiconductors, tourism and business process outsourcing.

Some are interested in the public private partnership projects of the government.

“Our (PCCI) role basically will be to find out what products or sectors they are interested in and then we will match them with opportunities that are available,” he said.

The foreign companies represented in business delegation would also take part in the PCCI’s Philippine Business Conference in October.

The PCCI plans to come up with a proposed policy agenda aimed at improving the business climate and develop different sectors. This will be presented to President Aquino.

Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo said earlier the country is seeing renewed investor confidence amid the government’s push for good governance.

Trade officials said the country had 28 in-bound missions in the first semester, well-above the 18 in-bound missions for the whole of 2011.

An in-bound mission refers to the visit to the country of a group of businessmen coming from at least five companies.-The Philippine Star (July 30, 2012)
