21st ASEAN Summit opens in Phnom Penh

The 21st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit opened here Sunday, bringing together leaders from 10 ASEAN member countries.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, the rotating chair of ASEAN this year, presided over the summit under the theme "One Community, One Destiny".

The summit is expected to tackle such issues as ASEAN Community building, maintaining regional peace and security as well as strengthening cooperation between the bloc and its partners.

Founded in 1967, ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.-The Philippines Star (November 18, 2012 12:01PM)
