PH is featured country in French museum in 2013

The Philippines has been chosen as the featured exhibiting country at the Musée du Quai Branly, the premier museum in France for indigenous art and culture, next year in Paris, France.

As such, President Benigno S. Aquino III ordered the creation of an inter-agency committee (IAC) to plan and carryout the activities necessary for the success of the Philippine exhibition which will be held on April 9 to July 21, 2013.

Aquino issued the directive by virtue of Administrative Order (AO) No. 28 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr. on September 4.

The Philippine exhibition provides an “excellent opportunity for the Philippines to promote and create awareness about its rich cultural heritage, history and people to a wider audience across Europe,” the AO said.

According to Aquino, “must-see” artworks on pre-colonial Philippines from national collections of the Philippines, the US and Europe, as well as private collections will be put on display during the exhibition.

The AO also noted that the exhibition can be used to promote Philippine products, tourism and trade, and promote general awareness about the country in Europe.

The IAC will be composed of the Department of Foreign Affairs chief as chairperson, the National Museum executive director as vice-chairperson, and the governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the secretaries of the Departments of Agriculture and Tourism and the executive director of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts as members.

It is tasked to formulate and implement a work program for the proper implementation of the Philippine exhibition and its parallel activities as well as coordinate with the French fovernment of France, the Musée du Quai Branly and all concerned agencies/entities for the preparation of the exhibit.

"The financial requirements of the IAC shall be shouldered by member agencies, chargeable against their regular budgets. The packaging, transit, forwarding and insurance costs of all cultural artifacts to be used in the exhibition will be shouldered by the Musée du Quai Branly," the AO said.-ABS-CBN News (September 25, 2012 8:36PM)
