Rival protesters clash in Bangkok

Rival red and yellow shirt protesters have clashed in Bangkok after the two groups confronted each other outside a police office in the city.

The two groups apparently gathered when police summoned a woman for questioning who has publicly accused one of the red shirt leaders of defaming Thailand's monarchy.

About 200 red shirts and about the same number of royalist yellow shirts gathered outside the police Crime Suppression Division.

Bottles and rocks were thrown and a car was damaged in scuffles between the rival groups.

A number of people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Political tension remains high in Thailand, where violence in early 2010 killed 92 people.

A report on the violence from the country's Truth Commission last week warned it may spill over again.-ABC News (September 25, 2012 4:30PM)
