Brunei and M'sia strengthen bilateral defence relations


The 15th Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia was held at the Holiday Inn, Melaka, Malaysia on Thursday. The JDWC was established through the "Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation" signed on February 14, 1992 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

According to a press release, the annual meeting was co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development) at the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam, Colonel (Rtd) Pg Dato Paduka Hj Azmansham bin Pg Hj Mohammad and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, Malaysia, Dato' Sri Dr Hj Ismail bin Hj Ahmad.

The meeting was also attended by senior officers from the Ministry of Defence and military officers from the armed forces of both countries.

This year's JDWC touched on several areas of cooperation between both countries, especially in the scope of sub-committees of training, exercises and logistics.

In the evening, a signing of a "Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia For The Embedment Of The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Element In The Malaysian Contingent To The United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL)" was held and signed by both co-chair.

On Friday, the Brunei delegation visited the Composite Technology Research Malaysia (CTRM) in Batu Berendam and the National Service Camp in Ayer Keroh Recreational Forest.-Borneo Bulletin Sunday (November 11, 2012)
